Why Every Bite Counts

Holistic nutrition involves a whole-person approach to health and wellness. It incorporates the mind, body and spirit of bodies and our food. Holistic nutrition views each person as a unique individual and emphasizes balance within the framework of one’s diet both in nutrient intake and in our relationship with food. Balance between nutrition and the other aspects of health and wellness is also important.

As a Registered Dietitian & Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist who practices holistic nutrition, these are the guiding principles for nutritional care:

  1. The nutrition care process involves assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring & evaluation. Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is the use of a comprehensive nutrition assessment and nutrition therapy (diet therapy, counseling, and/or specialized nutrition therapies) to address specific conditions, illnesses, or injuries.
  2. Nutritional health & wellness derives from mindfulness and balance between dietary intake and the other aspects of one’s life.
  3. A healthful diet depends on choosing whole, organic foods while emphasizing variety, moderation, adequacy, and balance. It also incorporates regular physical activity.
  4. Dietary supplementation in the form of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and other compounds may be health promoting but should never be used as a substitute for a healthful diet.
  5. There is no “magic bullet” and there are no miracle foods.
